The Chief of the Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, will begin three new security exercises across the country.
Army spokesperson, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu in a statement issued on Sunday, referred to the exercises as “Golden Dawn”, “Enduring Peace” and “Still Water”.
He explained that this was done to deter any form of criminality and permit the free mobility of individuals as Yuletide and Christmas activities approached.
He stated that the COAS will launch in symbolic fashion all exercises this morning in Ovie-Emene, Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, venue of “Exercise Golden Dawn.”.
The exercise was Field Training Exercises (FTEs) every year, which are conducted in the Army.
“The FTEs will equally provide an opportunity to improve the capabilities of troops in conducting Internal Security Operations.
“The exercises will take place simultaneously at the 2 6, 6, 81 and Divisions Areas of Responsibilities (AOR) in the Southwest and South-South Southeast regions, respectively.
“They’ll also be held at the headquarters of Command Army Records, 401 Special Forces Brigade and Guards Brigade Areas of Responsibilities in the states of Kogi, Benue and the North-Central States that include Kogi, Benue and the FCT as well,’ he added.
